A Fairweather Escape

Welcome to the Fairweather bar, a summer oasis right in the heart of downtown San Diego.
The outdoor patio bar will make you feel as although you step inside a bar in Hawaii or the tropical islands.
This is one stop you definitely don't want to miss out on.

Plus, the bar's location is right outside the outfield fence of Petco Park; giving you a view to enjoy while in the company of friends or your loved one. And in case your hungry, the bar is also located right above a deli known as the Rare Form to satisfy that hunger craving you may have while you enjoy a cocktail or two.

Miguel's Cocina

Craving some Mexican Food?
Well your in luck because Miguel's Cocina will provide a taste
of Mexican cuisine San Diego style.

The restaurant captures the ambiance of Mexico flavors
by providing homemade tortillas, fresh salsas and fresh made tortilla chips.
(My favorite is the jalapeno cheese dip...)

Besides the great atmosphere, the menu plan is easy to follow
and provides a good selection of food with great cocktail drinks.
So, here is a quick glimpse of my tasteful experience.
I ordered an Antojito (appetizer) known as the Empanadas Picadillo along with a
Rasberry Mojito and for the main dish El Marco dinner (two enchiladas with beans and rice).

Every bite and sip was delicious!

Happy Clarisonic Mia Days

Skin care around the holidays is extremely important, especially when we love
to wear beautiful rich pigmented colors on the skin.
And I know there are plenty of ladies like myself
that love to sport the red lipstick and wear bold eye shadow looks for the holidays.

Looking and feeling a little extra fabulous during the holidays puts every chika in
a good mood. I mean pampering yourself doesn't come as often as it should.

And we can all agree, after a long day of festivities, we find ourselves in the bathroom as we
roll up our sleeves, put a headband on and turned on the faucet with warm water.
It's time to wash our face to remove all the heavy make up.

But wait, I am excited to share my  beauty smart routine
 that will now include

Tis the season for Clarisonic Mia1 brush!

Las Posadas con Herdez

The Mexican holiday known as the "Las Posadas" is a fun-filled celebration with food, music and family. Although, we are far from our family and friends, we decided this year would be a good opportunity to bring a little Latin flavor into our household with HERDEZ.

Las Posadas is a perfect time to warm up the kitchen with savory flavors and traditional plates. So, I took the initiative to prepare in small portions my version of healthy Red pork tamales, chicken enchilidas, rice, beans along with chips and HERDEZ green salsa.

The Nutcracker

We all want to get into the spirit of the holiday season, so instead of watching holiday movie reruns; step away from the television set and into the Nutcracker ballet show at
the San Diego Civic Theater.

The ballet is a two act show orchestrated with the Classics Phillharmonic Orchestra. A performance that unfolds a riddle with their classic formula of horns, zoots and ballerinas with a dose of Sugar plum fairy sprinkled in for good measure.

The musical numbers produce by the California Ballet Company are light and, for the most part, short, sweet and whimsical. The show was filled with beautiful sets, costumes and simultaneous movements that kept your eyes entertained, but most of all delighted.

After the show or sometime during intermission you may enjoy a hot cup of coffee with some cookies and browse at all the beautiful and unique one of kind nutcrackers and/or ornaments for sale.

Pet Photo Night

Many pet owners view their pet as an integral member of the family and are just as committed in caring for their pets as their "human" family members. And that's exactly how my husband and I feel about our rescue dog "Jordan."

While we were missing our family dogs back in California, we thought we filled the void by donating our time at the Palm Valley Animal Center to spend quality time with dogs who were waiting to be adopted. And it so happens that we ended up adopting and rescuing a dog who we just couldn't stop thinking about.

It's now been two years since our adoption and we wanted to make this year's Christmas a little extra special for Jordan, so a portrait with Santa was perfect little holiday cheer.

A day in Los Angeles

It's no secret that WAG was in town last weekend in LA at studio 1342.
And I have to admit; I immediately fell in love with the outdoor
space this location had to offer.
This hidden gem was truly a great venue with lots of great perks.

Centrally located in La Brea just north of Pico Blvd studio 1342 provides a beautiful, but unique escape making you feel as although you never stepped a foot into the busy streets of LA.

when your hands feel dry & itchy,
lips are chapped and face feels and looks

While we all love the change of cold weather, you have to admit that having dry skin sucks!

Besides enjoying a nice cup of pumpkin spice latte,
I am also enjoying all the pre-black Friday sales.

Happy Hump Day!

We are almost through the week and I am sure we are all getting ready for that delicious Thanksgiving dinner with our family or friends.  But, before the day approaches, I've been thinking a lot lately about polka dots.... perhaps it's because I don't have a lot polka dots in my wardrobe.

So, I found an Adidas shirt that reminded me of my sporty chic days.
The days I use to run Track, Swim, Cycle a.ka. triathlete days.
With that said, my new goal for the New Year is to provide more sporty chic looks, but first
I wanted to share this cute short sleeve shirt.

Scratch

Manicure's are the best way to express your favorite color or art work on your nails.
Now, I am not no beauty Guru, but I try to keep up with my beauty routine
by trying out new things myself such as: hair coloring, makeup, nails etc.

If I don't get it right the first time (or after several attempts), I often end up at the beauty salon
to have an expert do it because after all it saves the hassle, but I like to try new
things. So, today, I am trying the Scratch Nail Wraps with the lacework design.

I found this brand really easy to work with and logged on to their Instructions page
to help me with the process. My results came out good, but I think I need more practice.

Fall is Here

It's finally beginning to feel like fall in Southern California
&
between you and I "it's about freaking time!!"

I've had the urge for cool weather since returning back from Texas, but with all the hot
and humid days lately.... it was making me feel as although I never left South Texas.

Texas was a great experience and one that I will never regret.
After all, it was where my blog was born and I'm a proud mama!

But now it's time to get my life back on track.
It's been a good solid year since returning to California
and I have to say being in San Diego has been a perfect comeback.

So, to get in the mood for Fall, I am sporting fall fashion from head to toe and

Punta Cana: Beach Ready

I can't say that I have the most perfect body,
but I definitely learned to feel more comfortable
and confident when I slip into a two piece bathing suit.

I know some of you may say "Why?", but after having my
ovarian cyst oophorectomy surgery; I was left with visible scars
that I became highly self conscious about especially in a two piece bathing suit.

I often worried about what people
would think if they saw my scars close to my bikini line
but I quickly learned to love, nurture and accept my body
because we all have a story to tell.

Your body is not ruined
it's simple a beauty mark
that was left behind

Fall meets Summer

Fall is here, but Summer seems to be lingering around longer than expected.
By now, most chikas are wanting to wear their fashionable fringe boots, sweaters and long sleeves, but how do we go about meshing Summer wardrobe with Fall styles?

It's simple! For example, I took out my Summer Shorts and pair it with a fall half sleeve shirt.
This outfit combination was either a hit or miss and surprisingly it was a hit! (since I got compliments on the look).

So just before you start tucking away those Summer Shorts make sure you style them into your fall wardrobe. After all... Summer is just beginning to slowly say goodbye before we start feeling the cold front, but that just might be a while.

Isla Saona

The sea surrounding Isla Saona is rich in wildlife, with many species of beautiful birds and tropical marine fish including my all time favorite known as the "Starfish." The tropical island's heat, white sandy beaches and cool breeze is a short distance from the mainland of Punta Cana. It is one of the most popular sites in the Dominican Republic because of it's unique scenery.

Casa Artelexia: Dia de los Muertos

This past Saturday night was fun as I got to explore "Dia de los Muertos" at Casa Artelexia.
The store's colorful walls, art and crafts speak in volumes with some of Mexico's beautiful culture.
Every corner was filled with unique pieces, but most of all told a story.

The Mexican culture is unique because it's not all the same(like most people think) it has different languages, food, and traditions, but there is one common tradition known as the "day of the dead."
A tradition that includes building private altars called ofrendas, honoring the deceased using sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed.

So, if you have a chance this October,
stop by and visit  Casa Artelexia and get to know Mexico's cultura.

that included wedding bells, cake and dancing as our good friends
 got hitched!!

As a bridesmaid, we all have a duty to be there for the bride
and be ready to cry, laugh and smile as you witness your friends happiness.

I was excited about coming out in a Fall wedding, but recently in California
the Summer weather has been lingering around longer than expected.
So, I wanted to find a dress that would be stylish and cool at the same time.

And, so, I found the little black dress by H&M and it was perfect fit for the special occasion!

Frames for Days

Finding the right pair of eyeglass frames can sometimes be tricky because we often look for styles that will compliment our face as well as look for quality frames that help support and protect our eyesight. Y chikas, if your anything like me, wearing optical lenses and sunglasses is an everyday accessory, so when shopping for new lenses make sure you take the time to pick frames that will make you feel beautiful and confident.

In case you didn't remember, eight days ago, I announced the Warby Parker fall eyeglasses collection and ordered the "Home Try-on Program" package. I selected five styles: 3 pair of eyeglasses and 2 pair of sunglasses that where more of my personal style. So of course after receiving the package in the mail, I was excited to take a glance at the designers pattern, color, frames and style.

Here my favorite top picks along with some fashion outfit inspiration.

Polo Ralph Lauren

The Polo Ralph Lauren fall fashion store collection was on point with all the fringe accessories, jackets and cashmere sweaters. The new heritage trend looks by Ralph Lauren speaks in volumes as old school classic garments make their way back into the fashion scene.

I had a fun time exploring the southwestern modern feel in the store, every corner had a chic and vibrant section of clothing and accessories. And I loved seeing how fall colors were mixed with purple, green, yellow garments that still give Summer Vibes. After all Summer in California tends to linger into Fall, given every chika a chance to mix Summer and Fall pieces together.

Feeling Hot

Summer heat in Punta Cana is sizzling as you hear the beat of the drums and guira moving closer and closer to the ritmo of your heart. Days like these, don't come around often in my neighborhood, so I definitely took the time to enjoy every minute of the islands soultry ritmo.

When your on the go during vacation, there's something so fresh about throwing on a pair culottes pants with a crop top and leaving your room with a wet hair bun, light makeup, no anxiety, no stress.

And just focusing on the island's heat, ocean breeze and light rain that feels so good.

A little walking, eating and shopping with my sister was a great way to start my weekend and spend a little quality time at home.

Kelly Cardenas Salon

Looking for a great Hair Stylist is not always easy, but I'm a pretty lucky lady to have been recommended to the Kelly Cardenas Salon San Diego hairstylist Salvador Rubio by my awesome blogger friend Cy from "any2ndnow.

Upon arriving, Roxy (the receptionist/hair model) greeted me with a warm smile and totally made me feel welcomed after a long day at work. She even offered me a complimentary beverage selection of water, wine or tea and of course I went with an ice cold green tea. After getting settled in, I got a quick tour of the salon facility and the open space is simple, modern and clean.

One of my favorite parts of the salon is the rinsing station, the room is deemed with small candle lights as peaceful music plays in the background.  Every customer will enjoy this part because besides the delightful hair wash  they also include a head to shoulder massage.

So ladies, if your new in San Diego (like myself) and looking for a hairstylist, I recommend to stop by  Kelly Cardenas Salon in Hillcrest. The team of stylist are ready to make your hair look fabulous!!

8 Beach Must-Have Travel Items

Finally, esta chika, se va de vacaciones!

In one week exactly, I will be up in the air traveling to Dominican Republic and I am more than ready to dip my feet into the beautiful beaches of Punta Cana.

Traveling to the islands is always an exciting time for anyone as well as thinking about what items to pack for the trip. So, here are some must have travel items to include in your bag:

Passport: When traveling outside the country be prepared to have a passport, if you don't have one, don't worry, you can request your document at USPS. Make sure to fill out  the application correct as well as take proper documentation such as: birth certificate and I.D.

Forever 21 Clutch: Any cute colorful clutch will do, especially in tropical beaches. It's all about playing with colors and feeling the island vibes.

Hand Wipes: Hand wipes come in handy especially when traveling and when your no where near a restroom. H&M carries small packages of scented wipes for only $1.95, so don't think twice about and buy one, trust me you will thank me later.

ChapStick: Smooth hydration lips is the key to beautiful lips, so while out in the sun, don't forget to protect those gorgeous lips with a pop of strawberry, cherry or coconut.

Fuji Film xp80: This waterproof camera is perfect to take with you while roaming the beach, ocean and/or jungle and with a simple once touch you can transfer and remote shooting  with Wifi to your Android or iOS smartphone or tablet.

Sunnies: Today's sunglasses are fashionably versatile, but ladies make sure to buy sunnies that offer 100% UV protection. They help prevent wrinkles by protecting the delicate skin around the eyes, protect eyes from harmful UV Rays and prevent pterygium(aka Surfer's eye).

H&M Bathing Suit: A bathing suit is notoriously a must for beach vacations. You can find cute and sassy prints at H&M's swim line collection.

Neutrogena SPF: A sun kiss glow is a beautiful thing, but remember to protect your skin with a sunscreen that has a good SPF.

Happy Beach Bumming!

Eva's Collection

This Saturday, I was out strolling and shopping for outfit ideas for my upcoming trip at the Westfield Bonita Mall and I came across the Eva Mendes Collection at the New York & Company Boutique. I can't help, but admit, I've fallen in love with her fashion collection after trying on a couple of clothing garments.

And chikas, let me tell you, I've always been a petite girl my whole life and at times being called, "Hey kid.."(Umm no, not a good feeling.). So, I've been on a little journey to upgrade my wardrobe little by little with pieces of garments that make me feel more womanly and age appropriate; I guess (maybe some you understand the petite girl struggle).

Anyway...slipping into some of Eva's dresses were like: Pow Wow! Hey sexy lady, those little curves do exist! So, if you haven't checked out her line, make sure you do before the weekend sale ends.

How To: Wear A Bow Tie

Last Saturday, I attended an Above Time event at the Hotel Palomar for a little fashion fete.
I had the opportunity to sit down with the fashion designer Carey Reddick, actor Matthew McKellington and two ambassadors (Ryan & Derek) who see the fashion of bow ties blossoming in the right direction.

In a short interview with these four amazing men, Carey said," Our accessories are all about  confidence, style and making our customers stand out in the crowd. The collection of accessories included textures and colors inspired by Kenya and European culture."
'
And ladies I have to admit, the fashion show was a hit because it had a fun, cool and vibrant collection, but also because the team collaborated with the non-profit organization to raise awareness about anti-bullying issues with the help of Amanda Roussel.

Amanda is the Marketing & Public Relations for the Above Time company and she hopes this trend will make people feel empowered and beautiful as well as leave a long lasting impression in the community.

TJ Maxx Thank You Notecards

We've made it to our one year anniversary!

and

We are celebrating our special day by sending our guest a thank you card this week.

Yes Ladies! It's been an incredible year of sweet memories and moments and although we've been together for 10 plus years, getting married was like icing on the cake (simply sweet & full of love.)

I had in mind to go to a fancy stationery store to buy notecards, but then I remembered that the TJ Maxx store also carries a small section of stationary cards, notepads, and accessories, so I stopped by to check out their collection.

And.... I just fell in love with a set of notecards that reminded me of my bridesmaids dress color, so I bought two packs for only six dollars.

Happy girl,
Happy wife,
